Message to Guidance Counselors

Have general questions? Feel free to e-mail the Office of Admissions at admissions@mountida.edu or call (617) 928-4553.

Our Admissions team strongly values our relationship with high school guidance counselors. We understand and recognize how important you are in helping your students decide which college is the right fit for them.

At Mount Ida, we offer career-focused higher education supported by an all college curriculum which emphasizes critical learning and thinking through a strong foundation in the humanities, social sciences and the arts. Our engaged, industry-experienced professors focus on teaching and each student’s individual success through small classes, close learning relationships with our faculty, and college supported internships, externships and faculty-led foreign travel and service learning. We have a tight-knit, diverse and inclusive community that feels a lot like family, and vibrant student life for both residential and commuter students.

To help you better understand our admissions criteria, like most colleges, our admissions team reviews academic history. However, we also look to admit students who are working hard to become their best selves—as a student, as a person, and as a future professional in the workplace. For us, that means your student should demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Achieves academically, demonstrating success or progress in high school coursework
  • Is an engaged and active citizen, participating in the community
  • Participates in extracurricular activities that are character-building
  • Has overcome obstacles

Professional Development for Guidance Counselors

We invite you to participate in our workshops for guidance counselors. Designed as professional development programs, our interactive platform offers an opportunity to engage with industry professionals and colleagues for sharing best practices and the latest trends in college admissions. The next event is planned for Fall 2018, and we will be posting more information as we get closer to the date. If you have questions or would like to make suggestions for future workshops, please contact Melissa Hagerstrom.
