Did you know that you can be part of the 40 percent of students at Mount Ida College who choose to commute to campus from nearby Newton or the greater Boston area? Commuting is a great option if you prefer a more independent living experience renting an apartment or staying home.
Whatever your home base is for commuting, now – more than ever – you’ll find the places and resources to make your time on campus comfortable, productive and fun.
Our student center is the perfect place to study, relax, hang out with friends, play games or watch TV. You can choose from a restaurant-style dining hall, a grill and café and a market and convenience store – when you are hungry. There is even a dedicated student lounge for you and other students living off campus to use before, after and between classes.
Other campus improvements include a new student fitness center. When you want to fit in a workout while you’re here, you’ll find everything you need – showers, lockers, fitness motivation from friends and staff.
Campus meal plans and dining options
Forget what you think campus dining means. As part of our campus-wide improvements, you now have many more dining options at the new Student Center and in a new café in Malloy Hall. You can use your meal plan via your One Card to pay for meals.
You’ll save money with a meal plan versus paying cash each time you have a meal or need a snack. Block meals allow you to purchase a number of meals at a discount. Or, you can set up a declining-balance dollars / points account, where you bank your meal plan money and it’s deducted each time you eat. Learn more about how your One Card works and sign up for a meal plan now.
Commuting from off campus
Thanks to Mount Ida’s convenient location with excellent access from Interstate 95 (I-95/Route 128), the Mass Turnpike (I-90) and Route 9, commuting to campus for classes and activities is easy by car.
Many of our students living off campus also use the MTBA’s Green Line – D Branch , then take Mount Ida’s free campus shuttle from the Newton Centre T-stop to campus. Campus also is accessible by the MBTA Bus Line #52 (Dedham Mall or Charles River Loop – Watertown Yard via Oak Hill & Newton Centre) with a convenient stop on Dedham Street.
Commuter students who take the MBTA to campus can purchase a discount CharlieTicket in order to commuter to school. Students can choose between a Semester Monthly LinkPass or a Semester Commuter Rail Pass for Zones 1, 1A, 2 or 3. Students can purchase a semester pass online, and pick up the pass at the start of each semester. Current students can find additional information about the program on MiCampus on the Commuter Student Resources page.
