As with most health care professions, the outlook for careers in the dental hygiene field is excellent. Traditional work sites include dental offices that practice general dentistry, as well as those that specialize in pedodontics (dentistry for children) and periodontics (treatment of gum disease). Public health programs, school systems, hospitals, the armed forces, research institutions and manufacturers of dental products also offer job opportunities for dental hygienists.
