Equine Management
The Equine Management bachelor degree program covers all facets of horse care, stable management, competition preparation, riding and training with continual hands-on practice taught by a professional faculty at an off-campus Equestrian Center. Coursework is geared specifically towards today’s hunt seat riders, focusing on the "A" Circuit Hunter/Jumper shows through our equestrian team competition in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
The curriculum includes animal studies, business and liberal arts courses for a well-rounded education, with the added ability to tailor your program to meet your career goals by adding communications, marketing and psychology courses. The equine management major also includes internships that provide access to outside experiences that help you build a network of references. As an example, Mount Ida students have trained with equine massage therapists, worked on breeding farms with foals, helped prepare young horses for the racetrack, learned to groom on the "A" Circuit and competed during Winter Break on the Florida circuit.
Because of the outstanding reputation of our program and our faculty, job openings often become available to Mount Ida students long before they are advertised to the general public. The practical experience our majors obtain frequently results in calls from people across the country looking for show barn managers, "A" Circuit grooms, camp coordinators and riding instructors.
