Primary Department: Interior Design

Courtenay Dean Wallace graduated with a Bachelors’ of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky.

After Graduating from UK, he founded e-Volutions Designs. Courtenay’s design philosophy has evolved from principles of spatial clarity and a commitment to modern materials and technologies. This approach is informed by a sense of restraint and control and overlaid by an inventive palette of materials, form and color that imprint each project with individuality and vibrancy. A particular sensitivity to detail, has allowed Courtenay to shift with ease between projects of different scales and levels of complexity, from home/residential additions to new-build and renovation schemes in residential, commercial, and leisure sectors.  He has been a practicing designer and design consultant for, developers and interior designers serving local and international clients since 1999.

During the day Courtenay works for a well known firm in Boston, Bergmeyer Associates. At Bergmeyer Courtenay is a Senior Designer implementing “A” level design.

He creates initial schematic through final designs and proposals, realizes proposed designs to tangible 3D models/animations and 2D presentation drawings, works one on one with clients to develop program and budget guidelines, is responsible for walking clients through design intent of each project explaining each course of action that lead to the ultimate decision factors of design, is responsible for design organization and design continuity with construction phases and documentation through the life of each project and  is responsible for conveying project design and development to public, community and civic offices/organizations. Some which include the Boston Redevelopment Authority and Department of Neighborhood Development.

Courtenay also heads up the Affinities program at Bergmeyer. Bermeyers’ Affinities program suggests several meanings – the connections that occur, sometimes unexpectedly, when incongruent things are considered simultaneously, the hidden relationships discovered in a careful examination of complicated casual relationships, and the bonds between people sharing a common task.”  With in this program Courtenay creates a Curriculum of events that is presented to the Bergmeyer culture as seminars, charettes and mini exercises. He promotes and cultivates design with in the Bergmeyer culture and augments current design operations and principles.

He has worked on many projects ranging from International projects such as Khalifah Hotel in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) to National projects: Helmsley Hotel (New York) Hyatt (Atlanta, GA) Hilton (Miami, FL) to Local projects such as Suffolk University (Boston), Costello Homes (South Boston), The Hammonds at Chestnut Hill and The Residence at Armory Park (Brookline)

In addition to teaching at Mount Ida Courtenay is a chair on the Boston Society of Architects Housing Committee, a Board Member of the Community Development Board for the City of Medford, a consulting architect for the City of Medford Historic Committee, A member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as well as an active member of the American Motorcycle Association.
