As a former criminal defense attorney in private practice, she was involved in complex criminal proceedings that included both jury and bench trials. She also represented criminal defendants before the highest Courts of Appeal in the State of Maryland, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Trained in mediation, Professor Ross  led a start-up company called Mediation Associates of Maryland.  This company provided conflict resolution services to persons involved in all types of civil disputes. She also served as a mediator for the District Court of Maryland, for Anne Arundel County.
