Mount Ida College

From Potential to Achievement

General Information and Procedures

Prerequisites
Please note that some courses have prerequisites. Before selecting courses, students are urged to check the course descriptions or call continuing education (617-928-4015) for an appointment with an advisor.

Add/Drop, Change of Course
Students may add, drop or change courses through the first week of classes, i.e. students may enter a course through and including the first class meeting, but not after. Call the continuing education office (617-928-4015) to add, drop or change courses. Permission from the instructor is required to add a course after the first class begins and tuition must be paid for any additional credits taken beyond those originally registered credits.

Withdrawal from Courses
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must make a request in writing to the director of continuing education. Ceasing to attend class or notifying the instructor does not constitute official withdrawal.

Certificate Candidacy
To earn a certificate, students must apply for candidacy by enrolling in a certificate program and completing the required courses. To enroll, candidates must complete a Certificate Program Enrollment Form and return it along with a $50 enrollment fee to the continuing education program. Students have a grace period of up to one academic year before it is necessary to enroll in a certificate program. Please note, however, that students will not be recognized as certificate program candidates until the enrollment process has been completed. Students must take a minimum of two certificate courses per academic year in order to maintain active status. Upon completion of all required courses, candidates must petition the continuing education program in writing so that the transcript can be evaluated and the certificate awarded.

Enrollment
The Continuing Education Program of Mount Ida College reserves the right to reschedule a course due to unforeseen circumstances or to cancel a course for which there is insufficient enrollment.

Class Cancellations
If an individual instructor cancels a class, the continuing education office is notified. The instructor will also make arrangements to notify students. When classes cannot be held because of inclement weather or a power loss, the shuttle bus is cancelled and the announcement of cancellation is given over four local AM radio stations: WBZ, WHDH, WRKO and WEEI. Separate announcements are made for day and evening classes.
