Mount Ida Student-Athletes Nab NAC Weekly Awards
McLear and Pereira honored after stellar weeks

NEWTON, Mass. (Oct. 31, 2006) – A pair of Mount Ida College student-athletes earned North Atlantic Conference accolades following outstanding performances in contests played last week. Sophomore Elise McLear (Swansea, Mass./Case) was selected as the NAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the first time, while freshman Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) earned NAC Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this fall.McLear tallied a pair of goals in Mount Ida's 2-1 NAC Tournament Quarterfinal Round victory over Castleton State College on Sunday. Her second marker was the match-winner and was scored off a free kick with just over four minutes to play. The midfielder leads the Mustangs with nine goals and four match-winners this season.
No stranger to Conference recognition, McLear was a NAC All-Conference Second Team selection last fall. She was also tabbed as a Rookie of the Week once during her freshman campaign.
Pereira registered 3.10 kills and 3.10 digs per game in a perfect 3-0 week for the Mustangs. The outside hitter boosted Mount Ida to a 3-0 win over Lasell College on Thursday, as she totaled 14 kills and 19 digs. The win vaulted Mount Ida to the NAC regular season title and home-court advantage throughout the Conference tournament. Pereira recorded 11 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Monday. She then accumulated eight kills in a 3-0 triumph at Regis College on Tuesday.
The third-seeded Mount Ida women’s soccer team (12-7-0, 9-3-0 NAC) visits second-seeded Husson College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. for a NAC Tournament Semifinal Round match.
Mount Ida’s women’s volleyball team (18-9, 10-0 NAC) will also be in action tomorrow, when it hosts eighth-seeded Elms College for a NAC Tournament Quarterfinal Round match beginning at 7:00 p.m.. The top-seeded Mustangs have won the NAC Championship in each of the last four seasons and have captured victories in 35-straight contests versus NAC foes.
