Mount Ida Spikes Wentworth, 3-1

NEWTON, Mass. (Oct. 23, 2006) – Senior Adrienne Xenos (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) piled up 14 kills, seven digs, three service aces and a pair of blocks to propel the Mount Ida College women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-28, 30-23, 26-30, 30-28) victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology this evening at the Mount Ida Athletic Center. After taking the first game, the Mustangs dropped the third. They then edged the Leopards 30-28 in the fourth game to secure the match.Freshman Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) poured in 11 kills, 11 digs, two aces and a pair of blocks, while classmate Lauren Biondo (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) tallied eight kills and eight digs. Mount Ida also received a boost from freshman Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford), who collected ten digs. Sophomore setter Stephanie Saito (West, Linn, Ore./West Linn) dished out 23 assists to round things out for the Mustangs.
Wentworth was paced by freshman Danielle Banks (Ellicot City, Md./Mt. Hebron), who came up with 15 kills. Seniors Tiffany Rodrigues (Bristol, R.I./Mt. Hope) and Liz Neales (Swansea, Mass./Case) contributed 24 and 15 digs, respectively, while freshman Courtney Zink (East Falmouth, Mass./East Falmouth) added 33 assists for the Leopards.
Mount Ida (16-9, 9-0 NAC) returns to action tomorrow, when it visits Regis College for an out-of-league contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Mustangs will round out their regular season slate at home versus Lasell College on Thursday. The winner of that match will take over sole possession of first place in the North Atlantic Conference.
Wentworth (6-14, 2-6 CCC) finishes out its 2006 regular season schedule at Eastern Nazarene College on Wednesday. The Commonwealth Coast Conference clash is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
