Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Artificial Turf Field With Newton Mayor Setti Warren; A New Era for Mustang Athletics

Newton, MA – Mount Ida College is scheduled to a host a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its new artificial turf field to replace its grass turf main field, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Scheduled to attend the ceremony are:
- Honorable Setti Warren, Mayor of the City of Newton;
- Michael Burns, Chair, Mount Ida College Board of Trustees;
- Dr. Lance Carluccio, President, Mount Ida College;
- Dr. Deborah Hirsch, Vice President of Development and External Relations Director;
- Matthew Burke, Athletics Director; and
- Katie Morvan, President, Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Also in attendance, will be students, members of Mount Ida’s Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, parents, and alumni and friends who have made gifts to the project.
Mount Ida College is replacing its main athletic field with a new artificial turf surface that is expected to be completed by the start of the 2012 fall athletic seasons. The new artificial turf field also will feature the installation of lights, new bleachers, a press box, and scoreboard. In addition, the College is expanding an existing practice field into a regulation-size grass playing surface that will allow great field access for varsity, club and intramural activities. The practice field is expected to be ready in fall 2013.
“We are delighted to have Mayor Warren as our special guest for this ceremony, which marks a new era for Mustang Athletics at Mount Ida College. This new turf field and field upgrade project helps us better meet the needs of our students, enhances the quality of our athletic programs and increases our community’s school spirit and pride, particularly among students and alumni,” stated Dr. Lance Carluccio, President, Mount Ida College.
The ceremony will be held at the main field on campus at 777 Dedham Street, Newton, MA 02459. Media interested in attending should contact Mount Ida College’s Marketing and Communications Office prior to noon, Wednesday May 2.
