Dr. Deborah Hirsch Named Vice President for Development & Director of External Relations

Newton, MA – Mount Ida College is pleased to announce that its Board of Trustees and President recently approved the re-organization of the Office of Development and have named Deborah Hirsch, Ed. D., Vice President for Development and Director of External Relations, effective July 15, 2011. Reporting to the President, Dr. Hirsch will oversee the office of development in addition to focusing on building strategic partnerships with organizations, businesses and the community-at-large.

“I am so pleased that we have Dr. Deborah Hirsch as our new Vice President for Development and Director of External Relations.  Deborah has a strong commitment to the College and understanding of our community. Her adept networking skills and proven fundraising and leadership abilities will serve the future direction of this important office well,” stated Dr. Lance Carluccio, President, Mount Ida College.

Dr. Deborah Hirsch stated, “I am excited about the opportunity to serve Mount Ida College in this capacity.  I know from my previous positions at Mount Ida that that the College has a great story and has made a real difference in the lives of so many students and alumni.  I will be working with the Development Office staff to get this message out to the community.”

Reporting directly to Dr. Hirsch are:  Candace Crabtree, recently promoted as Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving; Trixie D’Arcy, Development Assistant; John Darlington, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations; and Anthony Gisonda, Donor Prospect Researcher. 

About Dr. Deborah Hirsch
Since 2007, Dr. Hirsch has served Mount Ida College in roles of increasing responsibility, including Associate and Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs.  She previously served as the Executive Director of The Boston Higher Education Partnership, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening collaborations between Boston area colleges and universities and Boston Public Schools. Prior, Dr. Hirsch worked at New England Resource Center for Higher Education for 10 years in roles of increasing responsibility including Associate Director and Director.  Over the years, she also has been a board member or chair of many organizations, associations and foundations, including the Education Review Panel at EdVestors, Alumni Council of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Alumni Association, the Massachusetts Governor’s Public Education Nominating Council and a Senior Fellow at the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. 

Dr. Hirsch holds a bachelor of science from Boston University.  She received Masters in Education from the State University of New York in Buffalo and Harvard University.  Dr. Hirsch also earned her Doctor of Education at Harvard University.  She has authored several articles, contributed to many books and publications, and is a frequent speaker at conventions, conferences and professional meetings.  Dr. Hirsch resides in Newton, Massachusetts with her husband, Jeffrey, and children, Jake and Nate.
