Recycling Program
Although the College participates in Single Stream Recycling, compartment recycle stations have been installed in the residence halls to foster awareness of, and promotion of recycling.
The College has contracted with Wellesley Trucking service, Inc. which picks up trash and recyclables at Mount Ida.
Single stream recyclables are taken to Casella Waste Systems Inc. where they are sorted by mechanical shakers, magnets, and even some manual sorting.
Trash and non recyclable materials are taken to Covanta Energy which burns post recycled trash through an environmentally conscious schematic process to make electricity. Waste gas from the burning process is filtered through a rainwater retention tank and released as water vapor.
