From Potential to Achievement

Visualize Your Future

Visualize Your Future

Many people look at the future through a cloudy crystal ball. Setting ambitious but realistic goals is a more productive approach to taking control of your future. Mount Ida helps students identify their goals and achieve their potential through a system that includes advising, mentoring, career services, and professional internships.

Keep these 5 useful tips in mind as you begin setting goals:

Think and act positively. You can progress toward your goals more quickly with a positive frame of mind.

Develop a game plan. Having a game plan for success enables you to set milestones and measure your progress. Mount Ida College’s comprehensive student support services—advising, mentoring, career services, and professional internships—will help you develop your game plan and stick to it.

Realize that all goals are not created equal. Learn the difference between short-term and long-term goals—for example, between passing the test this Friday and earning your degree in four years. Long-term goals become less intimidating when you realize that they consist of a series of short-term goals that are easily accomplished.

Seek support when you need it. You can’t do everything alone. Sharing goals with family members, friends, and mentors increases your likelihood of success. At Mount Ida, faculty advisors, resident assistants, and the entire campus community are here to help you identify and reach your potential.

Put it in writing. You’re much more likely to achieve your goals if you commit them to writing and refer back to them frequently.
