Bereavement Support Groups for Adults
September 10 - October 5, 2012
Bereavement Support Groups for Adults
Instructor: Nancy Sherman, LICSW
This course is geared to providers who are interested in planning and creating bereavement support groups and workshops for adults, or those who are currently doing so, but would like to reconsider or redesign some of what they are currently doing. The course will lay a foundation for the benefits of offering groups and present different models, including long term, open groups, time-limited closed groups, and one time educational workshops. The course will then proceed to elaborate on the basics of providing groups, addressing issues such as location, facilitators, fees, format, etc. We will discuss some specifics of what to actually DO in groups, some alternative options to the “traditional” group, and how to address some challenges which can occur in offering groups. While the facilitator will offer some of her experiences, students will be strongly urged to share their ideas, experiences, and questions.
