English
Mount Ida College’s English major engages students in the imaginative and practical uses of language through a program that blends the study of great literary works with training in rhetoric, writing and professional discourse.
Coursework includes immersion in literary texts, creative writing, public speaking, logic and persuasion. A capstone project allows students to synthesize perspectives on topics of personal interest and prepare to communicate critically and effectively in their chosen professions.
In accordance with the College’s mission to provide a liberal arts education combined with professional preparation, the English program will cultivate both literary appreciation and practical communication skills. These will be developed through the selection of several courses among such disciplines as journalism, advertising and business communication.
