Student Voicemail FAQ

  1. What is the temporary pass code for my voicemail box? Until your voice mail box has been set up, the pass code is 2580.
  2. How do I know what the number of my voicemail box is? Until your voice mail box has been set up, the numbers of the voicemail (VM) boxes associated with your residence hall room phone number can be found by dialing into the voicemail system and then telling it what your room’s extension is. The system will tell you the VM box number until you go through the setup process for your VM box. After the VM box has been set up, the greeting will say the name (recorded during setup) instead of the number of the VM box
    • Dial 30 from any on-campus phone
    • When prompted, enter your residence hall room extension
    • You will be told the voicemail boxes associated with the extension number (Unless they have already been set up, in which case you will hear the name of the VM box user.)
  3. How do I set up my voicemail box? Before you start this process, be prepared with a new Pass Code, Greeting, and Your Name
    • Password - During the initial activation you will enter a personal password of your choice. Passwords (numbers) must be at least 4 numbers long and no longer than 7 numbers. It is a good idea to decide on your password before you begin to activate your voice mailbox.
    • Greeting - You will be asked to record a greeting. The greeting is the message, which your caller hears when they reach your voice mailbox. “Hi, I’m out. Leave your name and number.” You will be able to change this greeting at any time. For instance; “Hi, I’ll be skiing in Vermont until Wednesday, so if I don’t get right back to you please understand.”
    • Your Name - You will also be asked to record your name
When you are ready with the above three items:
    • Dial 30 from any on-campus phone
    • When prompted, enter your voicemail box number
You will be guided through a series of steps required to activate your mailbox. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE WHOLE TUTORIAL. If you hang up before completing the entire tutorial the changes you entered will not be saved. The PASSWORD will still be the temporary 2580 and the mailbox will not have been activated. During the tutorial you will have the opportunity to change that temporary password to one of your choosing. NOTE: The Password must be a number between 0001 and 1000000000, but not 1234. If it is to be secure it should not be frivolous, i.e. 1111 or 7777.
