Department Overview

The Department of Public Safety has many responsibilities; however, our main objectives are to provide a safe and secure environment while providing services to the community to enhance the overall comfort and quality of life of its' members. The information contained herein has been prepared in order to introduce the functions and services provided by the Department to the entire College Community.

DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL

The Mount Ida College Department of Public Safety at full staff consists of 22 members including the Chief of Public Safety, the Deputy-Chief, 2 Sergeants, 3 Corporals, an Office Manager, 8 Patrol Officers, and 6 Reserve Officers

All members of the Department are certified as Emergency First Responders, which includes training in First Aid, Healthcare Provider level C.P.R. (cardio pulmonary resuscitation), and the use of A.E.D.'s (automated external defibrillators) some members are further certified as certified E.M.T.’s (Emergency Medical Technicians).

In addition to medical training members of the Department are trained in a variety of Law Enforcement subjects including Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Patrol Procedures, Defensive Tactics, Community Policing, Juvenile and Elder Issues, Rape / Crisis Intervention and several others. All additional training is conducted trough certified instructors and the Massachusetts Police Training Council (M.P.T.C.) All Department Supervisory personnel attend the M.P.T.C. Reserve/Intermittent Police Training Course.

SUPERVISION

Chief Troy C. Santarlasci oversees the Department and its officers. Chief Santarlasci's office is located in Shaw Hall and his normal office hours are Monday-Friday from 9:30am to 5:30 pm. In the Chief's absence there is always a member of the Department Supervisory Staff on duty who can assist in answering questions or handling any and all Public Safety related matters. The supervisor on duty can be reached in person at the Shaw Hall Public Safety Office or at extension #4777.
