Women’s Lacrosse Coach Ready to Take on 2013-2014 Season

June 20, 2013-

A new age began for women’s lacrosse this past season with first-year head coach Nicole Poli at the helm of the program. The Mustangs, who became a varsity program four years ago, have qualified for the GNAC post-season every year since their inception and will look to do so again in 2013-2014 under the direction of Poli on the new Alumni Field turf stadium.

“Through my experiences as a college player and assistant coach, I have learned what it takes to maintain a successful program,” said Poli. “I plan to distribute what I have learned and achieved in the past in hopes to build a powerful and perennial winning tradition for Women’s Lacrosse at Mount Ida.”

Prior to her arrival at Mount Ida, Poli served as the assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Western New England University (WNEU) during the spring 2012 season. As a 2011 graduate of Western New England University and a four-year player for both the women’s lacrosse and soccer programs, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minor in coaching. In addition, Poli was a Wilbraham/East Long Meadow Youth Program volunteer where she taught young lacrosse players proper positioning on the field.

Presently, in addition to her role at Mount Ida, Poli is a coach for Mass Elite Lacrosse, instructing at clinics, practices and coaching tournaments. Shea also coaches for Croart Lacrosse, which involves 1 on 1 training teaching fundamentals and communicating the importance of teamwork as well as preparing student-athletes for college level of play.
