Professor Tami Dashley Shah joined the faculty of Mount Ida College in 2017 as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for Mathematics. Professor Shah received her Masters of Arts in Teaching Mathematics and her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Texas El Paso.

Prof. Shah an experienced mathematics educator who is well versed in addressing the challenges of teaching mathematics to students from diverse backgrounds, with varying skill levels and comfort with mathematics. She has been a math educator for more than 10 years, teaching students ranging in age from 10 to 30+ years old.

Her extensive teaching experience helps her, she says, “find out where my students will struggle, what their common misconceptions [about mathematics] are, and how to meet those issues head on. Being a professional educator means being willing to constantly learn and adapt oneself to the changing needs of the educational field and one’s student.”

In addition to her mathematics knowledge, Prof. Shah brings a true passion for education to Mount Ida.

“Education is a very challenging and yet rewarding field. I have found great joy in helping others learn about the topics that excite and intrigue me. More than that, teaching gives you a greater purpose in life by allowing you to assist others in the betterment of their lives and increasing their understanding of the world.”
