Ron Akie has served as Provost and Chief Academic Officer, and Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management, at Mount Ida College since November 2012.
Mr. Akie co-chaired the College’s 2013 strategic planning process and the 2016 VISION 2020 strategic plan. He previously served as Associate Professor and Director of the School of Business at Mount Ida College. In 2009, he received the College’s Lettieri Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Prior to assuming his full-time role at the College, Mr. Akie co-founded Knowledge Solutions LLC, a strategic consulting firm specializing in the knowledge and higher education industries, where for more than a decade he worked with leading national and international organizations including Elsevier, the American Medical Association, IEEE, Copyright Clearance Center, Thomson Corporation, E.I. duPont de Nemours Inc., ProQuest, and many others.
Mr. Akie served as CEO of SilverPlatter Information, a $75-million dollar global information firm, where he turned around declining revenues by expanding the company’s Internet business and led the company to its first profitability in 1998. That effort resulted in its successful sale to Wolters Kluwer N.V. He also served as Executive Vice president of The Faxon Company and as Executive Vice President of CEOExpress, a web portal pioneer, where he launched one of the early online paid premium service models. He has been a speaker and author on issues relating to knowledge creation and use, intellectual property rights and the journal publishing industry.
Mr. Akie has served on numerous for-profit and not-for-profit boards including the Board of the Trinity Boston Foundation (Chair) and the Vestry and Advisors (Executive Committee) of Trinity Church in Boston. He holds an M.B.A. from Suffolk University, an M.A. from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
