Equipment Manager/Head Men's Basketball Coach
Ben Davis recently completed his third season as the Head Coach of the Men’s Basketball Team. During the past season the Mustangs increased their total wins in conference for the third consecutive year. They also reached double digit wins overall for the first time in six seasons, scoring the most points by any team in the history of the program at an average of 78.1 points per contest. Their seven conference wins was the second most in a season since joining the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. In the process they earned a second consecutive quarterfinal appearance in the conference tournament. During his second season Davis helped the Mustangs nearly double their win total from the previous year, earning a quarterfinal appearance in the conference tournament that year as well. It was the first time the program had earned a playoff appearance in the past four seasons.
Before arriving at Mount Ida, Davis served a two year stint as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Division I Siena College. While at Siena, he was responsible for assisting in all areas of the national recruiting effort, while aiding in the development and implementation of all game and practice planning. Under his leadership, he helped the Siena Saints reach the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinal game in 2012 and a quarterfinal appearance in 2013.
Prior to his arrival at Siena, Davis served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Division II Stonehill College of the Northeast-10 Conference, where he was the national recruiting coordinator. His efforts in that capacity were quite successful as he was able to develop four classes that exceeded 20 victories per season, the last of which captured the East Regional Championship and advanced to the Division II Final Four in 2012. While at Stonehill, Ben helped lead the Skyhawks to an overall record of 67-22, as well as NCAA Division II tournament appearances in 2009, 2010, 2011 while capturing the regular season conference championship and a #16 National Ranking in 2010. His first coaching experience was at Division III Nichols College as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.
Davis graduated from Wheaton College (MA) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. He attained a Master’s Degree from Endicott College in 2012 with a Master of Education in Athletic Administration. While at Wheaton, Davis was a four year letter winner and team captain for the men’s basketball program during his senior year. Davis helped lead Wheaton to two consecutive ECAC Championships in 2005 and 2006. His senior class finished with 76 wins over their career, the most in the history of the program.
Davis said, “I am thrilled to be named the head men’s basketball coach at Mount Ida College, and I would like to thank Athletic Director Matthew Burke, the search committee members, and the college’s administration for providing me with this incredible opportunity. This is an exciting time to be associated with the Mount Ida athletics program, and I hope to be able to build a program at Mount Ida that the college, alumni, and community can be proud of.”
Davis currently resides in New Hampshire.
