He has held positions at all levels, from intern to mid-level positions (manager, director), and all the way up to senior management positions (VP, SVP, President). He has been involved in start-up companies as well as mergers and acquisitions.
“I have been very fortunate in my career. My success has come through hard work and, of course, a bit of luck. My professional network is vast and perhaps my greatest achievement. As I reflect back on the chapters in my career, I am most excited about my current chapter – Higher Education.”
Professor Burke is enjoying the opportunity and privilege to share his experiences and to help prepare students for the world beyond college, sharing his knowledge through discussions and debates, company case studies, and hands-on business simulations.
“Business leaders must be able to recognize emerging trends and navigate real-time change. Fast changing trends must be integrated into business strategies. Companies are looking for graduates that have experienced these types of hands-on, experiential learning activities throughout their college curriculum. Change is constant.”
Professor Burke has his own plan of action for his classroom. “Teaching in any field requires passion, preparation, personality, and patience. Work hard, be prepared, arrive to class early, show empathy, build trust and respect with your students, and let your passion be seen in and out of the classroom. Your pedagogy should reflect your personality. Be yourself. Don’t fake it.”
The joy of teaching rests for Professor Burke in that every day is different, he can watch students develop before his eyes and see their excitement when they come to class. “I most enjoy being the catalyst for change and growth as well as being part of building a better future for my students and society as whole.”
Professor Burke is Certified PQ (professionally qualified) by AACSB International, indicating the completion of a seminar for business professionals working in an academic position. He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Association for Strategic Planning.
