Bio

Professor Cleveland is an experienced veterinary technologist who brings a combination of years of experience as a veterinary technologist in small animal practice to her students, coupled with more than a decade of experience in laboratory-related skills.

Her expertise in veterinary microbiology and parasitology laboratory diagnostics was culled in part through her work in the parasitology and microbiology departments at Idexx Veterinary Diagnostics Corporation and at Tufts Department of Veterinary Clinical Pathology.

“I do what I do because I am lucky enough that my boss gave me this opportunity and thought I would be great at it and I AM. I stay good at it because I love learning and enjoy helping the students and, of course, the animals.”

Professor Cleveland says this is a dynamic time for the field. “Every year the opportunities for students grow with the advancements in the veterinary and research fields. Distance learning is also an amazing opportunity. I try to instill that every day is an opportunity.” Her advice to students it to “work hard and enjoy what you do with your life and work. This is a gift and you can learn from everyone you meet.”

Career highlights for Professor Cleveland include induction into the Alpha Chi Honors Society in 2004, and the Senior Class Achievement Award that same year as a Summa cum Laude graduate. She also cites her time as Veterinary Hospital Manager; Healthy Pet and VCA Corporations and as a USDA Veterinary Technician, Animal Facility and Laboratory Supervisor. In 2014, Cleveland was one of 2 Veterinary Technician receipts in North America to be awarded a studies scholarship from National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America. She will be a guest speaker at the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators annual Conference in Niagara Falls in August of 2015.
