As a registered dental hygienist, Professor McLean keeps current the field working up to 40 hours a week in a private dental office keeping current on the constantly changing field.
“I pride myself on my ability to provide comprehensive dental hygiene care to each of my patients and my goal is to do that in an environment that is as pain-free as possible. I instill these values in my students as well. My new, fresh perspective allows dental hygiene students to connect with me on a personal and professional level.”
Recipient of the ‘Golden Scaler’ award, she readily admits that she loves teeth. “There is an unexplainable feeling that I have when patients wish to return to the office to continue with their care. I enjoy teaching because I want to share my love of the profession with others and take great satisfaction when my students have their “aha” moments.
Professor McLean is a strong advocate for hygienists to continue their education, supporting volunteering as a way to stay connected with the professional associations and the College. “Dental hygiene school is just the beginning of one’s professional career.”
