A licensed dentist, Dr. Hallisey-Pesa has more than a decade of private practice experience in general dentistry. However, her first love was education and growing up, she always thought she would be a teacher. This all changed when she began working in a dental office in high school; her passion for dentistry blossomed. Dr. Hallisey-Pesa has worked in all capacities in the dental office (dental assistant, receptionist, dental hygienist, and dentist). “I think my varied experience and insight in the profession give me a unique perspective that I can impart to my students. I can bring all of these real-life situations into the classroom.”
The fields of dentistry and dental hygiene are evolving constantly and for Dr. Hallisey-Pesa that means there is always something new to learn. “It is the concept of life-long learning that makes the dental industry so exciting.”
She reconnected with her passion for education when she began working as a Dental Planner for a continuing education company and teaching in the Mount Ida College Dental Hygiene Program. “I truly love seeing my students learn – their excitement is infectious and that is why I do what I do.”
Dr. Hallisey-Pesa was honored in 2014 by the second-year dental hygiene students at Mount Ida when they asked her to speak at their pinning ceremony. “I was touched that I had made such an impact on them and was truly honored to speak”.
Dr. Hallisey-Pesa, in addition to her license to practice dentistry, is also CPR-certified. She is a member of the Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Dental Association. She works as the Supervising Dentist in both first and second year clinic along with serving as Portfolio Advisor to the second-year students. In addition, she currently also teaches Nutrition for Dental Hygienists and Pharmacology to the second-year dental hygiene students.
