Longfellow Preschool at a glance

Convenient location

Longfellow Preschool is located on Mount Ida College’s beautiful, self-enclosed 72 acre campus in Newton, Massachusetts, just eight miles from Boston. Our building overlooks the college’s athletic fields with easy access to the college’s other facilities.

We have a multiage group model for 32 children ages 2.9 to 5 years old. In 1998, we also introduced a transitional kindergarten program called Longfellow 3. Children attending Longfellow typically come from the neighboring community as well as from the Mount Ida community, which includes faculty, staff and full-time students in need of a preschool for their children.

Longfellow follows the academic calendar of Mount Ida College, including semester breaks, beginning in September and continuing through mid-June.

Well-trained and caring teachers

Head teachers, many with long tenures, hold bachelor or master degrees in education or a related field and serve as mentors to undergraduate student interns enrolled in the college’s Professional Studies in Education Department. All teachers at Longfellow have completed Red Cross First Aid Training and CPR for young children.

Excellent teacher to student ratio

Longfellow has an excellent student to teacher ratio of 6:1, ensuring children get personal attention and support.

A Laboratory Preschool for Mount Ida College

As a laboratory school, designed to train future teachers enrolled in Mount Ida’s Professional Studies in Education Department, the learning opportunities for both preschoolers and teachers-in-training create a rich and fertile environment for collective growth.

Long history of success
