Mount Ida College Closed Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Mount Ida College staff continues to work to prepare the campus for full operations after this historic winter storm.  As you are aware, the MBTA has suspended all rail service.  This, coupled with uncertain road conditions, Mount Ida College will close on Tuesday, February 10.  Please be aware, that classes will begin at 8:00AM on Wednesday, February 11.  

1 – The Shuttle will NOT run through the closure.  It will begin running on a normal schedule at 6:30 AM on Wednesday, February 11.

2 – Due to the roads and staffing the Campus Center Café will remain open until tonight until 10:00 PM.  The Dining Common will open Tuesday at 9:30AM with Continental Breakfast and Brunch will be served at 11:00AM and with continuous service through closing at 7:30 PM.  The Campus Center Café will also be open its usual hours Tuesday.

3 – A parking ban has been issued.  Please refer to instructions from the Chief of Police issued previously.  Additional instructions will be issued at a later time.

4 – In the event of a power outage, generators have been installed to fully power the Campus Center, Vet Tech Center, New Hall, Wingate Hall, Brown Hall and Malloy Hall.  Generator restoration of power will take approximately 90 minutes, during that time emergency lighting will be available.  Residential students are reminded NOT to use candles to light their rooms as this is a fire hazard and against College policy.

Students residing in Chapman Hall should power be lost, will be contacted by representatives of the Student Affairs Office and the Office of Residence Life and moved to temporary locations.  Office of Residence Life staff will coordinate the move with the students, students should remain in the building, and await instruction from the staff should a power outage occur.

Other Services:

The Malloy Hall Office of Residence Life will remain open until 12 midnight Monday, and will reopen Tuesday at 8:30 AM through 12 midnight.

The Campus Center is open until midnight and will be reopen Tuesday at 8:30 AM until Midnight.

The Fitness Center is open until 11:00 PM Monday and will reopen Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

The Library will be open Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

We encourage students to utilize these facilities.

Emergency alerts

The Emergency Notification system is used to alert the community to an active emergency situation, school closing and any other event that requires immediate action from community members, for example, shelter in place.

Please refer to this web page for special announcements relating to emergencies on campus and adjacent communities/neighborhoods. If there is an emergency situation, information will be disseminated through a variety of media including the following:

  • Telephone “reverse 911” messages
  • Text message

Timely Warning Notifications

As mandated by the Jeanne Clery Act, at times it may be necessary to notify the entire college community of a situation that arises, either on or off campus, where the situation constitutes a continuing or ongoing threat against members of the Mount Ida College community. If in the judgment of the Chief of Police, such an incident occurs the Mount Ida College Police will clearly and quickly notify the entire college community of the situation by issuing a campus wide warning.
