Mount Ida’s Animation program emphasizes applied, hands-on learning experiences, mastering the skills needed for industries pertaining to animation and motion media.

Hands-on training with cutting-edge, professional software, coupled with instruction from industry-experienced teachers, act as the cornerstones of your learning experience as an Animation student.

Preparation for the real world.

As an Animation student, you’ll be educated in a wide range of industry-standard tools and techniques, with opportunities to create traditionally drawn 2D animations, 3D computer animation, narrative-driven animated works, special effects, animated postproduction work, motion graphics and animated simulations for training and education. Students start with a core regimen of foundational art courses to hone their understanding of line, shape, volume, value, and anatomy. Graduates gain practical real-world experience through in-demand internships and industry networking within the Boston area’s game and animation community or beyond.

Program Requirements - 120 credits, broken out into the following categories:

  • 66 credits- Program Requirements Courses
  • 6 credits- Program Electives
  • 48 credits- All College Curriculum and Other Required Courses

Professor Hunn leads the Game Art & Animation program, giving students in-class and real world experience. He has been instrumental in organizing Mount Ida’s participation in the PAX East convention, highlighting the student work produced in the Game Art & Design program, and mentoring those who choose to enter these highly competitive fields. Professor Hunn brings more than a decade of Professional experience to the classroom having worked for such companies as 38 Studios, Animotion, Disruptor Beam and the Cambridge Interactive Development ...

Admissions

We assign every prospective student a dedicated admissions counselor to guide them along every step of the applications process. Our no-fee applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so there’s no better time to apply. Learn more about the process in our Admissions & Aid section.

Tuition Fees and Aid

Tuition:

Resident Students, 2017-2018 tuition, fees, room & board (before aid is deducted) is $49,400.

Commuter Students, 2017-2018 tuition and fees (before aid is deducted) is $35,720.

*Students enrolling in the Veterinary Technology, Design and Dental Programs (excluding Pre Dental Hygiene and Degree completion) should add $1,700 for expected program expenses.

Aid:
As part of our commitment to making college affordable, Mount Ida College has increased the aid we award from $12 million in 2012 to over $20 million in 2017. All new students entering in Fall 2018 are expected to receive some type of merit award, with most awards anticipated to be between $15,000 – $27,000 per year – and that’s before we award need-based aid.
