Friday, October 4, 2013, Newton, MA—Homecoming and Family Weekend at Mount Ida College has arrived and it’s time for our alumni, students, faculty and staff to celebrate. On Saturday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m., the community will gather along with members of the Board of Trustees, President Brown, alumni, parents and friends for the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new student campus center at Carlson Hall.
High Quality Campus Experience
The gateway to Mount Ida’s campus, the new student campus center at Carlson Hall, will house wonderful new and expanded spaces for student activities and recreation. On the main floor, students will delight in a state-of-the-art dining commons with a variety of delicious food options as well as indoor and outdoor patio seating. Downstairs on the ground floor is our retail space, which includes an 18-hour grill and café for students to eat and relax almost any time of day, along with an auditorium for community and class lectures and events. Other great additions to the space include private dining rooms for meetings, learning and recreation space for students, along with the Office of Engagement and Leadership, which includes Diversity and Inclusion, Student Activities, Leadership, and Civic Engagement, and other student conveniences including an ATM machine.
The College owes many thanks to the Board of Trustees, President Brown and his administration for their leadership and vision in making this much anticipated and needed state-of-the-art student space a reality. Our appreciation also extends to the talented contractors and individuals behind the actual design, construction and renovation of the building: Beacon Associates, a renowned architectural firm specializing in higher education and private schools; nationally recognized construction firm, Structuretone Builders; and our food service and facilities provider, Aramark.
Come celebrate with us
Please join us on Saturday for the ribbon cutting ceremony and tour our newest student facility. Directly after the ribbon cutting, please join President Brown for coffee and an update on the rest of our campus renovation and construction program. We anticipate the official opening of the new campus center to the students and community sometime later this weekend.
