Orientation Frequently Asked Questions
Soon you will be attending your orientation session at Mount Ida College. We realize you have many questions about your new life at college. On this page, you will find the most frequently asked questions on attending orientation. If you have any questions, after reviewing this information, please contact the Office of Admissions.
What is orientation?
Orientation for traditional incoming freshmen is a two day, overnight event where you will stay on campus with fellow incoming freshmen. Throughout the two days you will attend a number of sessions focused on preparing you for the academic, social, and exploratory challenges that await you at Mount Ida.
The Transfer Orientation Session is a one day experience with similar sessions, but adjusted to better suit transferring students instead of incoming freshmen.
Do I need to attend orientation?
Yes. Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students. As a new first-year, transfer or international student, our orientation programs provide you with the opportunity to get to know your community and meet your fellow classmates. We strongly recommend you make arrangements to attend one of the orientation sessions offered in June (or July if you are a transferring student).
How do I know which orientation session to register for?
New students should plan to attend one of the June or July orientation sessions. If you are an international student or cannot attend the June or July session, you should contact the Admissions Office. Transfer students should plan to attend the Transfer session, which runs in July. Placement for the various orientation sessions is based on availability, so be sure to register early.
Is there an orientation fee?
There are no fees associated with the student or parent orientation programs.
Can I bring a guest to orientation?
Guests (friends/siblings) are not permitted to attend orientation with you, but for parents/guardians we run a concurrent Parent Orientation. Some of the sessions do crossover, however, parents/guardians will have their own full schedule while students are in their own programs. Please note that the parent/guardian sessions are designed for adult family members and may not be of interest to younger siblings, therefore we encourage you and your family to make plans accordingly. Pets are not permitted at Orientation events.
Do my parents/guardians have to attend Parent Orientation?
No, but it is strongly encouraged if you are the first student attending college in your family, and/or your family still has questions about Mount Ida College and next steps leading up to joining our community.
What should I bring to orientation?
You should bring the following items with you to orientation:
