Ceremony schedule

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. a complimentary breakfast for guests, graduates, faculty and staff will be served at the Wingate Conference Center. Degree candidates will begin the Commencement procession at 10:45 a.m. from the Athletics Center to the big tent, and the approximately two-hour long Commencement ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. We encourage you to get to campus early to allow for any traffic delays and time to park, get seated and enjoy our beautiful campus prior to the ceremony.


Commencement will take place under the big tent on campus rain or shine. Please dress for the weather forecast.

Parking and seating

Is campus and off-campus parking available?

Limited campus parking is available up until 10:30 a.m. After that time, or if campus parking is full prior to 10:30 a.m., we will direct you to our off-campus parking locations. If you know you will not arrive in time to park on campus, we suggest you go directly to our off-campus parking locations.

Is handicap parking available?

If you have an official state-issued parking placard, handicap parking is available. In addition, we will provide you a ride from the parking lot to the tent, where designated wheel chair space is available if needed; another guest also may accompany you. To facilitate parking and seating, please complete this form. Lastly, if you should need assistance during the Commencement ceremony, we will have Commencement Hosts that will be easily recognizable and available to assist you.

I have a physical impairment. Is there handicap seating available?

Yes, there is handicap seating and parking available for you. To facilitate, we ask that you complete this handicap parking and seating application by May 1, 2014. Because handicapped parking is limited, please try to arrive to campus before 10:00 a.m.

Where do guests sit at Commencement?

You and fellow guests of our degree candidates may select seating at the left or right of the center stage seats, which are reserved for the Class of 2014. You also may sit behind the Class. Seating for guests is on a first-come, first-served basis so please arrive early if you have a seating preference.

Commencement protocol

Cellular phones

As a courtesy to our degree candidates, honorary degree recipients and guests, we ask that you silence your cell phone during the Commencement ceremony. If you must make or take a call, we ask that you exit the tent to do so. We appreciate your consideration.


We ask that all of our guests remain seated throughout the ceremony to ensure everyone’s enjoyment of their loved one’s big day. You are welcome to take photos after the ceremony.

Please note we will have a professional photographer and videographer capturing your student’s big moment and day. We also will have photos available to download for free on the College’s Flickr account. Your student will receive a photo order form via email, but you may also reach out to Hockmeyer Studios directly at (978) 388-9832 or To order a copy of the video, please complete this form.


Children are welcome to attend the ceremony, but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For safety purposes, all strollers and carriages must be left outside of the tent. Lastly, if your graduate is a parent, we ask that all children remain seated in the audience and not accompany parents across the stage.


With the exception of service animals, pets of any kind are not allowed at Commencement. For the enjoyment and convenience of all of our guests, please leave your pet at home. Thank you for your consideration.

Guest Services


Get your Mount Ida College spirit gear while you can! The bookstore is open on Commencement day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is located in the basement of Wingate Hall. Shop our online bookstore anytime!


Flowers will be available for sale on site.

Lost and found

A lost and found will be set up at the Mount Ida College Police Department. Here is a campus map for directions to their office or call at (617) 928-4777.

Medical services

Medical services will be available at the first-aid vehicle, located on site.


Restrooms are located on the first floors of Shaw Hall and New Hall, located across from the big tent. Please note, we advise our guests with disabilities to use our New Hall restroom facility.

Water stations

Water stations will be located at several points around the Commencement tent. Our Commencement Hosts will be available to circulate water as needed to our guests.

Senior Class Gift

Each year our senior class officers, together with their classmates, work together to organize and raise funds that are donated to their very own Mount Ida Senior Class Legacy Gift.  The Senior Class Legacy Gift is not only a way for seniors to show their commitment and support for the College, it’s also an opportunity for them to leave a legacy for future Mount Ida students.
