When do I order my cap and gown?
The deadline for ordering your cap and gown is Tuesday, April 15, 2014.You may place your order online at no charge here.
When do I pick up my cap and gown?
You may pick up your cap, gown and tassel at the Senior Showdown Commencement Fair on Monday, May, 12, 2014. Students who are receiving Latin Honors will receive their Honor Cords at the Commencement Fair when they receive their cap, gown and tassel.
When is the Senior Showdown Commencement Fair?
To help make the steps leading up to Commencement easy, we invite you to attend the Senior Showdown Commencement Fair on Monday, May 12, 2014. In addition to getting answers to all of your important questions about graduation, there will be fun giveaways and light refreshments served.
Can I adorn my cap and gown for Commencement?
Honor society insignia for Alpha Chi, Eta Sigma Delta, Phi Beta Delta, Phi Theta Kappa, Pi Sigma Eta, and Sigma Beta Delta, BSAC and SALSA affinity sashes are the approved adornments for the cap and gown. Students have been known to personalize their caps, however, we remind students to remember that this is an official academic ritual and while creativity is appreciated, decorum should be of the highest order. Commencement Staff will be in the student line up area to assist with questions about how to wear your cap and they will also have clips and pins to help secure them should you require it.
What should I wear under my Commencement gown?
We suggest you dress in attire appropriate for this momentous occasion that is so important to you, your family and special guests. We suggest practical shoes as the grass leading up to and inside the tent may be difficult to walk in high heels, flip flops and other shoes that do not have adequate support. Caps should be worn straight and parallel to the ground.
Do I or my guests need tickets to attend Commencement?
No, tickets are not required to attend the commencement exercises. Nor is there a limit to the number of guests each graduate may bring. However, seating is on a first come, first served basis and there is a finite number of seats. However, awards ceremonies and other events on the days prior to the Commencement ceremony are predominately by invitation only.

When and where do I get my Honors cords?
If you are receiving honors—Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude—you will receive your Honors cord(s) when you receive your cap, gown and tassel at the Commencement Fair. To receive a cord, you must fulfill the final cumulative grade point average requirements, which are listed below by December of 2013. If you have incomplete grades or other outstanding work, you are not eligible to receive Honors cords by Commencement. However, once unresolved work is successfully completed, that status will be reflected on the final official transcript. Questions regarding Latin Honors should be brought to the attention of the Registrar’s Office.
The following honors categories awarded are as follows:
- summa cum laude CGPA of 3.80 to 4.00
- magna cum laude CGPA of 3.67 to 3.79
- cum laude CGPA of 3.33 to 3.66
Where do I get my diploma?
For administrative purposes and to ensure the Commencement ceremony goes smoothly, your diploma is mailed directly to you after Commencement. If your mailing address has changed, be sure to inform the Office of the Registrar prior to graduation.
When can I order my yearbook?
You may pre-order your Class of 2014 Vita Libre, Mount Ida College Yearbook here. The yearbook offers you the option of inserting up to 10 customized pages using your own personal photos. If you pre-order by May 1, 2014, you will receive the 10 customized pages, for free.

Will there be a rehearsal?
The rehearsal for the undergraduate procession is on Thursday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the Athletics Center. In addition to rehearsing the procession from the Athletics Center to the Commencement tent, your Senior Class Officers will announce the results of your Senior Gift fundraising efforts. After rehearsal, you and your class will gather for a class photo and Clam Bake. Rehearsal is a great way to lose those Commencement day butterflies!
Where do I go on Commencement day?
Start off your day with a complimentary breakfast for graduates, guests, faculty and staff at 8:30 a.m. at the Wingate Conference Center. At 9:00 a.m. on May 16, walk over to the Athletics Center. Promptness is essential to ensure you and your classmates are lined up according to your school and in Alphabetical Order. You must wear your cap and gown in order to line up for the procession. Commencement begins at 11:00 a.m. Please be at the Athletics Center by 9:00 a.m. so that you may fully appreciate the pomp and pageantry of your special day and not be rushed.
Please move your vehicle to the Carlson Parking Lot by Thursday, May 15 at 9:00 p.m. to ensure that ample parking is available for guests on Commencement day.

Is campus and off-campus parking available?
Limited campus parking is available to your guests up until 10:30 a.m. After that time, or if campus parking is full prior to that timeline, we will direct your guests to our off-campus parking locations.
Is handicap parking and/or seating available for my guest?
If your guest has an official state-issued parking placard, handicap parking is available. In addition, we will provide your guest a ride from the parking lot to the tent, where designated wheel chair space is available if needed; your guest may have one other person accompany him or her. To facilitate parking and seating, we ask that your guest complete this form prior to Commencement. Please note, if your guest should need assistance during the Commencement ceremony, we will have Commencement Hosts that will be easily recognizable and available to assist your guest.
Where will my parents and guests sit?
You and your fellow degree candidates sit left and right center stage under the tent. Your guests may sit either to the left, right or behind your class. Please let your guests know seating is on a first-come basis. Please have your guests arrive early if they have a seating preference.

What if it rains on Commencement day?
Commencement will be held under the tent, rain or shine. Please inform your guests to dress appropriately for the weather forecast.

Will there be a professional photographer and videographer at the ceremony?
Yes, a professional photographer and videographer will be on hand to capture you obtaining your degree and the Commencement ceremony on film and will be made available to you and your family for purchase. We also will have candid shots of the day available to you for free on the College’s flickr account. Please note, it may take a week or so for professional images, videos and the College’s images to be available online.

Can my guests take photos during Commencement?
We ask that guests remain seated throughout the ceremony to ensure everyone’s enjoyment of their loved one’s big day. Your family and friends may take photos after the ceremony. Again, professional photos of your receiving your degree are available. Guests who are interfering with other guests and/or graduate’s experience will be addressed by Commencement staff.

Is there a Commencement reception following the ceremony?
Yes, you and your guests are invited to a light reception to be held at the Campus Center and Dining Commons. Connect with friends and family and enjoy light refreshment, live music and our newly renovated student space.
Residence hall check out
I live on campus, when do I need to move out of my residence hall?
Residence Halls close at 5:00 p.m. on Commencement day. Detailed closing instructions will be distributed to you by the Office of Residence Life prior to Commencement.
