To complete your additional license program requirements with undergraduate/graduate course approval from the Chair of the Professional Studies in Education department, you’ll take two required courses – one practicum, one seminar.
Practicum: Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, PreK-8 (SE400)
3 credits. Class meets onsite at the practicum school.
In this 150-hour practicum, you’ll learn several inclusive strategies – from all-inclusive to a combination of an inclusive setting and separate or substantially separate setting for students with moderate disabilities. You’ll be mentored and supervised jointly by a Mount Ida College licensed supervisor and a cooperating professional from the practicum location site. Using what you’ll learn through additional license coursework, you will prepare and implement lesson plans and incorporate learning and behavioral strategies to address the diverse needs of students.
Seminar: Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, PreK-8 (SE405) 2 credits. Class meets on Mount Ida’s campus in Newton, Massachusetts, just eight miles from Boston.
During this weekly seminar, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the implementation of the Massachusetts State Competencies as Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, PreK-8. You’ll learn practical strategies for use with a variety of to share your professional experiences on related topics with your classmates and to explore and discuss real-world applications from your learning experience.
