Design Hosts Third Annual Universal Design Symposium

The Mount Ida Interior Architecture and Design department is hosting its 3rd annual Universal Design Symposium, and the entire college community is invited to participate. This is a great opportunity to be part of a very special experience that engages attendees in the development of design solutions alongside professionals, community members, and individuals with disabilities.

This year’s guest speaker is Melissa Shang, a 14-year-old from Westborough, MA, who has a form of muscular dystrophy. She is a disability advocate who has been featured in Cosmopolitan, USA Today, on CBS, and other major news outlets. Melissa has published a book, Mia Lee is Wheeling Through Middle School, and signed copies will be available for purchase at this event.

As in years past, participants at the symposium will complete empathy building activities and develop practical solutions—this year focusing on the younger generation—to improve daily living for all. Prizes will be awarded to the top ideas. This year’s program has condensed everything to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/universal-design-symposium-design-athon-tickets-21430944532

On behalf of our department and The School of Design at Mount Ida College, we look forward to bringing together our students, faculty, and staff with the local community to expand the awareness of the importance of universal design.
