Sophomore forward Valerie Martin (Derry, N.H.) of the Mount Ida College women’s basketball team was the first-ever student-athlete in program history named to the D3Hoops.com Weekly Team of the Week on Monday, December 11.

Martin, a Veterinary Technology major, averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and 3.5 assists in a pair of wins for the Mustangs. She registered a double-double effort of 28 points and 15 rebounds in a 94-80 triumph over Fitchburg State University at home on Dec. 5. Her career-high scoring effort was bolstered by a record-tying 13-of-13 effort at the free throw line. Against Mount Holyoke College, she tallied 18 points, nine boards and six steals in a 78-54 victory.

The Mustangs have compiled their best eight-game start to a season, chalking up a 6-2 record in that span. Mount Ida is back in action Tuesday, Jan. 2 (7 p.m.) at Becker College. Mount Ida returns back home Saturday, Jan. 6 (1 p.m.) to host Rivier University.
